What causes Roblox error code 266?

Error code 266 has 4 common causes:

  • A weak or congested Wi-Fi signal.
  • Other devices or apps using most of your bandwidth.
  • A device that is too slow for the game, freezing long enough to time out.
  • A server-side problem in that game.

How to fix Roblox error code 266

Try these 5 fixes in order, and test after each one:

  1. Rejoin the game; a single timeout is often a one-off.
  2. Move closer to the router or use a wired Ethernet connection.
  3. Pause downloads, streams and updates on other devices.
  4. Lower Roblox’s graphics quality in the in-game settings so the device does not freeze.
  5. Restart your router and update or reinstall Roblox.

Check status.roblox.com first. If Roblox reports an outage, no fix on your side will help, and the error goes away once Roblox recovers.
