By Blox Handbook•

Roblox error code 280 means your Roblox app is older than the version the game server expects, so Roblox refuses the connection until you update. The fix is to get the current version of the app.

What does the error 280 message say?

The full message reads:

Your version of Roblox may be out of date. Please update Roblox and try again. (Error Code: 280)

What causes Roblox error code 280?

Error code 280 has 3 common causes:

  • Roblox released an update and your app has not installed it yet.
  • Automatic updates are turned off in your device’s app store.
  • The updater failed and left an old version in place.

How to fix Roblox error code 280

Try these 4 fixes in order, and test after each one:

  1. Close Roblox fully and reopen it; on PC and Mac this usually runs the updater.
  2. On phones and tablets, open the App Store or Google Play and update Roblox.
  3. On Windows, if the update fails, uninstall Roblox and install it again from roblox.com.
  4. On Windows, close Roblox, press Win + R, type %localappdata%\Roblox and delete the contents of that folder, then reopen Roblox.

Check status.roblox.com first. If Roblox reports an outage, no fix on your side will help, and the error goes away once Roblox recovers.
