Client initiated disconnect. (Error Code: 285)

What causes Roblox error code 285?

Error code 285 has 4 common causes:

  • You chose Leave or closed the Roblox window, which is normal and harmless.
  • Your phone or tablet closed Roblox in the background to free memory.
  • Roblox crashed or was closed by another program.
  • The client dropped the connection because the network failed.

How to fix Roblox error code 285

Try these 4 fixes in order, and test after each one:

  1. If you left on purpose, there is nothing to fix; just rejoin.
  2. On mobile, close other apps before playing so the system does not stop Roblox.
  3. Lower the graphics quality in Roblox’s settings to reduce crashes.
  4. Update or reinstall Roblox if the disconnect happens on its own again and again.

Check status.roblox.com first. If Roblox reports an outage, no fix on your side will help, and the error goes away once Roblox recovers.
