How to Get Roblox Studio on a Chromebook
You cannot install Roblox Studio on a Chromebook the normal way, because Roblox makes Studio only for Windows and macOS. A Chromebook can play Roblox through the Android app, but not build with Studio. There are 3 workarounds, each with trade-offs.
1. Run Studio through Linux (unofficial)
Many Chromebooks can turn on a Linux environment in Settings > Advanced > Developers. Inside it, community tools that run Windows programs, such as Wine or the open-source Vinegar project, can sometimes launch Roblox Studio.
This route is unsupported by Roblox and unreliable:
- It needs a Chromebook with enough memory and storage for Linux.
- Graphics glitches, flickering and lag are common.
- A Roblox update can break it without warning.
See Roblox Studio on Linux for how this setup works.
2. Remote desktop to a Windows PC or Mac
If you have access to a Windows PC or a Mac, a remote desktop app lets you use Roblox Studio from the Chromebook’s browser. Studio runs on the other computer, so it behaves normally.
3. Create without Studio
Studio Lite, a Roblox experience that imitates a simple building editor, runs anywhere Roblox runs, including a Chromebook. Roblox is also testing Build, an AI creation tab in the Roblox app. Both are covered in Roblox Studio on mobile.
Does a school Chromebook allow Roblox Studio?
Usually not. School Chromebooks are managed by the school, which typically blocks Linux, app installs and games. Only the school’s administrator can change that.
If you plan to make games seriously, a used Windows laptop is the simplest option; see how to download Roblox Studio.
