How to Make Clothes on Roblox (Shirts, Pants and T-Shirts)
You make clothes on Roblox by drawing a design on Roblox’s clothing template, testing it on a character in Roblox Studio, and uploading it to the Marketplace for an upload fee of 80 Robux per item. These are classic clothing items: flat 2D images that wrap around an avatar’s body.
What kinds of classic clothing are there?
Roblox has 3 kinds of classic clothing:
| Item | What it covers | Studio property |
|---|---|---|
| T-shirt | A single image on the front of the torso | ShirtGraphic > Graphic |
| Shirt | Torso and arms, drawn on a template | Shirt > ShirtTemplate |
| Pants | Legs and lower torso, drawn on a template | Pants > PantsTemplate |
How to design a shirt or pants
Shirts and pants use a template image that you download from Roblox’s creator documentation. Each region of the template maps to one face of the avatar: large squares for the front and back of the torso, tall rectangles for the sides and limbs, and small squares for the tops and bottoms.
- Download the shirt or pants template.
- Open it in an image editor that supports layers.
- Paint your design inside each region, keeping to the lines.
- Export the result as a PNG image.
How to test clothing in Roblox Studio
Testing is free and saves you from paying to upload a broken design:
- Open Roblox Studio and, from the Avatar tab, select Character to add a test rig.
- Upload your image to your account and insert a Shirt or Pants object into the rig.
- In Properties, set ShirtTemplate or PantsTemplate to your image.
- Rotate the camera around the rig to check every side.
How to upload and sell clothing
When the design looks right, upload it from the Creator Hub’s avatar item section, choose the clothing type, and pay the 80 Robux upload fee. After the item passes moderation, you can put it on sale and set its price. Roblox only lets accounts that meet its current creator requirements sell avatar items, and your Creator Hub settings show whether yours does.
What about 3D clothing?
3D jackets, dresses and accessories that follow the body are layered clothing, part of Roblox’s user-generated content program. See how to make UGC on Roblox.
