How to Download Roblox Studio (and Keep It Updated)
You download Roblox Studio for free from the Roblox Creator Hub at create.roblox.com, then install it and log in with your normal Roblox account. It takes a few minutes, and the same account you play with is the one you build with.
How to download Roblox Studio step by step
Installing Roblox Studio takes 5 steps:
- Go to create.roblox.com and log in with your Roblox account.
- Select Start Creating (or Open Studio). The site downloads the Roblox Studio installer.
- Run the installer file and let it finish.
- Open Roblox Studio and log in if it asks you to.
- Pick a template, such as Baseplate, to open your first project.
What does Roblox Studio need to run?
Roblox Studio runs on Windows 10 or later and on macOS. Roblox ended Studio support for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and macOS 10.13 in March 2025. A mid-range computer is enough to start. Large games with detailed terrain and many models need more memory and a better graphics card.
How to update Roblox Studio
Roblox Studio updates itself. When a new version is out, Studio installs it the next time you open it, or shows a prompt to restart. If an update fails or Studio will not open:
- Close Roblox Studio completely.
- Uninstall it from your computer’s app settings.
- Download it again from the Creator Hub.
Your games are not lost when you reinstall, because published games and anything saved to Roblox live on Roblox’s servers, not on your computer.
Is Roblox Studio free?
Yes. Roblox Studio is free to download and use, with no subscription. Some things you do with it cost Robux or have requirements, such as selling clothing or publishing a game to all ages.
